White House: Hey, You Know What Might End the Hannukah War? Maybe Hamas Could Take a Chill-Pill on Lobbing Rockets Into Israel

The lack of nuance here is breathtaking.

How naive. A belligerent terrorist government can actually end a war by ending the constant making of war. Obviously none of these jokers have Caroline Kennedy's Harvard education. (Giggle -- Caroline Kennedy's entrance essay? "I am Caroline Kennedy, daughter of John F. Kennedy, and that "F" stands for "Friggin'." The essay got ten marks out of ten.)

The Bush administration is continuing to monitor events in Israel and Gaza, but insisted again Monday that Hamas stop agitating for a fight whose latest violence has resulted in more than 300 dead Palestinians and two dead Israelis.

"In order for the violence to stop, Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel and agree to respect a sustainable and durable cease-fire. That is the objective to which all parties need to be working. That is what the United States is working towards," National Security Council Spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in Crawford, Texas.

Building on Gabe's earlier post, Noah Pollack from Contentions takes on the Juicebox Mafia (not sure what that means, but I like it) and their endless apologism for Hamas.

Matthew Yglesias:

But already the number of Israelis killed by Hamas rockets has increased (from a baseline of zero) since the retaliatory attack that was supposed to prevent such killings.

Ah, so they should wait for the inevitable rocket that kills 40. Hamas has launched three thousand rockets this year. Is Israel to simply accept weather reports stating "partly cloudy with chance of terror-rockets" in perpetuity?

Furthermore, Yglesias either doesn't know or doesn't mention (option one is more likely) that Hamas has in fact killed people with their rockets:

A crude rocket fired by Palestinian militants fell short of its target in Israel on Friday, striking a house in the northern Gaza Strip and killing two schoolgirls.

I do not mean to be snarky when I say Israel is also protecting Palestinians. The left notes, correctly, that wars kill people and sometimes civilians get killed in wars. (This is pretty much the extent of their geopolitical thinking.)

So, you know, I wish they'd take that thinking to the next level -- Hamas is killing civilians through its never-ending and futile war on Israel.

But "stop shooting rockets into civilian areas" is far too restrictive a rule to impose on the poor beset Hamas terror-masters.

There can in fact be peace between Israel and Palestine -- the moment the Palestinians give up their Eternal War on the hated Jews.

Thanks to Dave in Texas.

I do so love the headline on Yahoo.  "White House blames Hamas for new Mideast violence."  Hmm, well who started the attacks?  I wonder if when the ceasefire began if they even had an article with the title along the lines of "Ceasefire ends, Hamas increases rocket attacks."  And if would have to be increase, since they were happening beforehand.

3 It's beginning to look more and more plausible to just go into Gaza and KILL every living thing that is stupid enough to remain there.  Maybe the threat of annihilation will wake the Palestinians up.  Hard to raise a generation of 'victims' when those 'victims' don't exist.  Peace is not going to come about until the Pali's decide their tired of being used by the rest of the Arab world.  However, given their current level of intellect (as evidenced by how they vote), I don't see it happening any time soon.  Ya can't legislate or fix STUPID.

4 Hmmmm.

Frankly my opinion is that Israel should permanently annex land from the Palestinians every single time they shoot a rocket, send a homicide-bomber or try to kill Israelis.

Sooner or later either they'll get the hint or a whole shitload is going to end up sleeping standing up.

5 A ground assault would hopefully draw out some of the 15,000 - 20,000 hamas fighters for fun and games. Taking out about half of them would be nice.

7 Well, it could have been worse. At least an American official didn't say something like 'In order for the violence to stop, Israel should concede all their land to the Palestinians, dismantle their temples and either convert to Islam or kill themselves."

Of course, we could hear that next month, when President Elect Boy Wonder takes office.

13 I suffered through some of Amy Goodman's moronic blathering on NPR today, and she had several pro-Hamas/Pali's on there peddling some of the most untrue bullshit you can imagine.  Along the lines of "there are NO soldiers in the areas being bombed, only civilians" and of course no mention, at all, of the missiles fired by the pali's.  Listening to it one could surmise that Israel just woke up one sunny morning and decided to go and kill several hundred pali's for no reason other than they can.

The problem is that the meaning of cease-fire to us and the Israelis is not the same as it is for Muslims.  Cease-fire means Hudna to Muslims which means they continue to snipe and sporadically attack while attempting to arm-up for the "Big One".(it's a cultural thing)  To us and the Israelis cease-fire means to, you know, stop firing.

Every attack means move the northern portion of the wall south 10 meters. Do it for exactly ten meters, even if that means demolishing a row of buildings.

S. needed to put big numbers of boots on the ground in Israel now.  You have to love the red states.  My manager's from Florida so he thought that was a little extreme which is why the discussion became heated.  He did admit to me that the more he thought about it, the more it made sense.  Still, I reminded him he voted for BO.  No boots on the ground anytime soon.

#7 shibumi has got it right. When The Obomination takes over Israel is f****d. The nuclear arms sales to the towel heads will begin January 21st.

As to a blockade... You do realize the backdoor opens in towelhead land don't you? Why is it that the Arabs are not sending billions of dollars in 'aid' to the Palis? The answer is easy - even the Arabs don't what anything to do with the Palis. They just keep on using them as surrogates in the War Against Zionism.

My guess is Israel reads the papers too. It's not too hard to guess that the cockroaches of the desert were planning on 'testing' him right out of the gate. This is a wonderful preemption attack. Go Joooooos!!

40 Israel needs to end this right now. Kill every last one of the Palestinians and their sympatizers and call it a day. I'm pretty sure that's what the IDF is gearing up to do. I just hope that the Israeli's tell the U.N. and the White House to get bent and they finish the deal. Time will tell.

Posted by: ErikW at December 29, 2008 06:51 PM (hKtiw)

41 Let's cut to the chase:

Hamas and Hezbollah are each wholly-owned subsidiaries of Iran. Iran is run by a maniacal regime inexcusably allowed to seize power by I-Can't-Believe-He-Was-Elected President Jimmy Carter. Iran is an enemy of Israel and of the United States... not to mention Western Civilization.

Iran is doing ALL in its current power to hurt Israel. It has rockets... and it uses them. Iran is striving mightily to build nukes to put on those rockets. There is NO reason to think it has any moral reservations about using such nuke-tipped rockets against Israel... OR the United States of America.

Therefore, one must conclude that merely attacking Hamas and Hezbolla will not bring piece for Israel, because Iran itself will not be hurt. Therefore, the only way to bring peace for Israel is to attack Iran. And since Iran is also a sworn soon-to-be nuclear mortal danger to America, a sane person might conclude...

We need to wipe the filthy Iranian mullahs off the face of the planet Earth NOW, with extreme prejudice, by whatever means necessary.

That's just my considered opinion, of course...

CoolCzech, you are right on.

Why doesn't the media ever speculate on where the Palestinians get money for rockets, or where the rockets come from?

Posted by: steve o at December 29, 2008 11:55 PM (w7tri)

46

Yeah, I agree Israel has to make the Palis hurt.  And the way to do that is permanently annex land.  So, since they are in a state of war Israel has no reason not to change the borders.  I would annex 50-60 KM, or however much is needed to put Israel out of Hamas rocket range.  Then move by force all Palestinians out of that zone, buldoze all buildings into rubble and and make a nice big wall at the new border.  Then, I would tell the Palis that if they lob more rockets and mortars they will lose more land.

And, yes, Iran needs to have their nuclear teeth pulled.  Israel better do it since the One won't.

Posted by: BattleofthePyramids at December 30, 2008 12:00 AM (NvO9R)

47 The punishing by land idea is good, until you take it to its obvious conclusion. Hamas will keep lobbing rockets. Until they get pushed into the sea. And Israel knows they don't have the courage(psychopathy? i mean honestly I couldn't give the order) to do it.

Actually somebody here gave me an idea.

I have perfect solution how to stop the cycle of violence.

It is based on the doNotCallList in US

where you indicate to Telemarketers that

you do not want to be part of their business.

How about to create two secure web lists in Switzerland.

Secure so Hamas and Israel can't get at them.

The people of Gaza who do not want to support Hamas would register on

notTerrorist list.

The people of Gaza who support Hamas would register on

yesTerrorist list.

Then the Palestine would have two states for Palestinians, WestBank (for notTerrorist) and Gaza (for yesTerrorist).

I think this would solve any future problems, people who are not terrorists would not be bombed; people who support Hamas would get their wish.
