Hah: Obama Advisers Urge Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations

Change.

A top economic advisor to Obama had a glum warning for the rest of us Thursday morning: Neither the job market nor the stock market will be turning around any time soon.

"This might be a long haul," said Robert Reich, who was President Bill Clinton's secretary of labor. "2009 is going to be a very hard year. Some economists say we won't be out of this for two years, others are saying it may be three, or four, maybe five years."

Now on Obama's transition team, Reich worries about what happens after the new president is sworn in Jan. 20.

"We all have to be very careful about the expectations that we are putting on this man, our president-elect," Reich said. "If we all assume it's going to be the first 100 days, we're going to be disappointed."

The man who was Obama's chief campaign strategist is moving to lower expectations, too.

"We are inheriting an array problems unlike any president has faced, maybe since Franklin Roosevelt in 1932," David Axelrod said. "It's not going to be easy, not going to be quick."

Sorry, I'm expecting the earth to be healed and the seas to fall almost immediately.

I was promised.

Hey, as long as Obama's first 100 days are as energetic and positive as the 2006 Democratic Congress' first 100 days, everyone should be pretty damn happy.

1 Screw expectations, I was promised a unicorn, dang it. I want my unicorn.

2 Ya know, if there is any silver lining in this debacle it is that Obama might be hamstrung from doing a lot of the crap he has proposed.  Here's hoping for no change.

6 "It's not going to be easy, not going to be quick."

Government intervention will make the depression worse, and make it last longer.

If the government stopped interfering in every market known to man, the economic crisis would be over in about a month.

7 Bush inherited the Clinton downturn. I don't remember anyone on team Bush
laying the groundwork for reduced expectations.

I do remember something catastrophic happening 8 months after Bush was elected but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

This thing ripped something like 3 Trillion dollars out of the economy and took years to get back to full steam. I can't remember team Bush throwing a pity party or trying to place blame elsewhere.

They can always rely on the, "it's Bush's fault," mantra for at least the next 4 years.

Don't you mean the next 20 years?

And hooo boy are there going to be some disappointed folks out there. I heard two women at the grocery store two nights ago rejoicing that, "This time next year we won't have to worry about paying for our groceries. Obama's got it!"

They were deadly serious. I cannot wait to rub it into these types faces a few years from now when they're still pathetic losers.

Seriously I would want whoever was the President to express his confidence that the economy will rebound and that we should expect rainbows and unicorns in every pot.

Perception and consumer confidence is a big part of what moves our economy and if the President is knocking it down it will prolong whatever cycle we are in.

Hey, we broke it, why should He (pbuh) have to fix it for us?

I mean, exactly who was it that elected a Marxist running on a platform of higher taxes, soaking the rich, erecting trade barriers, increasing the power of unions, and generally withdrawing the steadying hand of the US in the world, totally overlooking what was obvious to your kid's pet gerbil, that it would cause the stock market to crater and slough off trillions of dollars of our retirement savings?!

29 Don't forget that Reagan inherited Carter's mess, too.  Did he say that we could expect more gloom and doom from the economy?  Hell, no!  He said that he would find a way to turn things around.  And he did, even with a Jackass, er, I mean, Democrat dominated Congress.  The Great Optimist (aka the Great Communicator) put us on the right track.  Optimism does that.  Zero is optimistic.  Optimistic that he can reshape our nation into a communist stronghold.

It's my theory that Zero and his minions have no intention of rescuing the economy.  They want to torpedo it and just turn it into a planned economy, like Lenin and his putrid ilk did.  Zero's agenda doesn't necessarily reflect any of his campaign promises.  Campaign promises were made for the sole purpose of either shaming or duping people into voting for him.  Now that he's in, he's going to reshape the USA into the USSA (United Socialist States of America).

I weep for the future.

34 As a long time Leftist and devout Satanist, I am deeply concerned with the direction President Elect Obama is taking.

He has a very inspiring past that made me believe that his election would usher in a bright future of redistributing wealth and killing babies. However, his recent comments and those of his transition team lead me to believe that PE Obama is not the Revolutionary Savior of Mankind and Other Living Things. In fact, I'm beginning to doubt the fact that he is "the One."

I may be forced to start a blog about these recent events where I will explore my concern and disillusionment. I urge all of you other 'concerned' citizens to do the same. Or at least post your concern on leftist blogs because this is too good to pass..I mean...Dissent is Patriotic!!

Oh, no doubt whatsoever about that line.

Here's an amusing side-bet:  If the economy stubbornly refuses to recover after a couple of years of The One's magnificent "rule" (now that was a revealing word by his staffer), will The One Himself be blaming it on Bush, or will he leave that to his cabinet members, press spokesperson and other underlings?  In other words, will He find it too much like whiny excuse-making if he Himself actually blames Bush?
