A "McCain aide," who we can now reasonably conclude is the fired Randy Scheunemann, predicted precisely this.
He names names. Schmidt and Wallace. Are they behind this? I don't know. But he predicted they'd do this. And now it's been done.Even as John McCain and Sarah Palin scramble to close the gap in the final days of the 2008 election, stirrings of a Palin insurgency are complicating the campaign's already-tense internal dynamics. Four Republicans close to Palin said she has decided increasingly to disregard the advice of the former Bush aides tasked to handle her, creating occasionally tense situations as she travels the country with them. Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image even as others in McCain's camp blame the pick of the relatively inexperienced Alaska governor, and her public performance, for McCain's decline. "She's lost confidence in most of the people on the plane," said a senior Republican who speaks to Palin, referring to her campaign jet. He said Palin had begun to "go rogue" in some of her public pronouncements and decisions. "I think she'd like to go more rogue," he said. The emergence of a Palin faction comes as Republicans gird for a battle over the future of their party: Some see her as a charismatic, hawkish conservative leader with the potential, still unrealized, to cross over to attract moderate voters. Anger among Republicans who see Palin as a star and as a potential future leader has boiled over because, they say, they see other senior McCain aides preparing to blame her in the event he is defeated. He and his staff are trashing Palin not only to assuage Mac's gigantic ego, but to acknowledge to the Beltway Insiders that he "made a mistake" by choosing the chillbilly from Alaska. This way they'll welcome him back, and they can all have a good chuckle together.

The thing is, Palin was in it for real. She put herself and her family through hell, and then the conservative base stayed home or voted for Obama, and now Mac and his crowd are taking massive shits on her.
I've written Palin a letter, which my whole family signed, in which I told her I was glad to see that there are still people like her, and that I wish her all the best, and I admire her greatly.

This is our next battle. I was worried from the start that Palin would be tarnished by a mediocre McCain run. Time to rally around the principled conservatives. We nominated the most centrist candidate either party has seen in years and we see how it turned out for us. So to hell with the BS that we didn't reach out enough to independents. He was every liberal's and every media personality's favorite Republican until he was nominated. Fuck it. Take the gloves off Sarah.

That's garbage railwriter. Its a pretty insulting question when you're running for Vice President of the US. And it was pretty obvious she was annoyed - especially on the heels of the Gibson interview - and was just giving the question the brush-off. She was asked the same question in an unthreatening and friendly environment by Charlie Rose a year ago and gave a perfectly substantive answer.

The only reason I could get behind squishy McCain and vote for him with any enthusiasm was because of Sarah Palin. I was familiar with her going back to late 2007, and even though she is short on experience (but as much as Barry O), I had hoped Grandpa would strongly consider her for VP. The problem is that he picked her only 2 days before announcing, leaving her in catch-up mode.

McCain had a hard time running as a conservative, because he is a moderate. I think you can tell when McCain's handlers were controlling her. I was excited when he put Palin on the ticket, but after the convention she sounded like an out of order robot. In the last few weeks of the campaign, she sounded real. I think it's ashame if we become what we're fighting against, that's what the Democrats have become. They are now the proponents of racism, corruption, "baby-killers", and killing the constitution.

I don't usually rebut rebuttals, because I made my point, and you're entitled to make yours. I think I've given the wrong impression, though, either because I didn't make clear my point, or because it was misunderstood. I'll try to clarify.

To someone defensive about reading, it could be seen that way. It was asoftball question, though, really. Can you name a book you've read in the last month? The last six? Why couldn't she?Moreover, it was an open invitation for us to get a sense of what interests her, what the cast of her mind is. She could've used the opportunity to rock Couric, but she let it go. "Well, Katie, I'm glad you asked. I've been reading up on the history of XX, and the author has some great points to make about YY." I got the sense that she's uneasy around such things, and at least a passing awareness of the world around her. I don't care that she hasn't travelled abroad; I'd just like to think that she's got enough curiosity about the modern world to have at least aserviceable inventory of ideas--a kind of "mental furniture"--about it. I didn't get that sense. As for the Charlie Gibson interview, it was certainly an ambush question. She'd have to field harder questions than that, and more difficult situations, in national office. I'd hope she'd have the aplomb to be able to eithergaff him off more gracefully or take him down.

Governor Sarah Palin is being crucified in the name of Republican moderates. Anyone attached to the campaign knows it. They know who's doing it. When they tried to speak out, they got axed. Palin knows what "Africa is." Don't listen to the new messages coming from the Axelturfers. Just because the election is over, doesn't mean they're out of work.

She simply did a poor job of putting it back in Couric's face...probably because she is too nice, and certainly not properly prepared for the gotcha attitude from the mainstream press.

I simply see a remarkable woman. Do you actually think that in her cultural millieu in Alaska that coming across as a brainiac would be received as anything but obnoxious? Her pattern of speech is equally lacking in self-consciousness.

As a conservative Republican I knew I would vote for McCain simply because there was no way I was voting for OBama. I really like Sarah Palin. I think when she first cam out at the convention that we were gonna see something good. Then she was kept under wraps too long. It felt like she was so afraid to say anything or she would ruin the campaign. Look at Biden. She was way better than him. McCain was just too old and controlling. I voted for them and was disappointed that they lost. It was not her fault. She brought a refreshing energy that McCain could not. If John McCain had been more loose with her and let her run with it the election may have been a lot different. As soon as he started keeping her under wraps that made the media jump on her good. If she had been out there helping him from the first and showing what she was capable of they might have not been so hard on her. Or, the media assault would not matter because the people could see what she was about. They shot their own campaign in the foot. Add to that the main reason for the loss, not enough money. It was not her fault. Go Sarah. I will vote for you if you ever run again.

I hate to be a contrarian but I feel it is entirely possible that Palin was sooo deficient that the people who were trying to control her just snapped. There are many, many independents and moderate republicans that saw her as a total embarrassment to the country and this also became a common theme in other countries. As more and more evidence comes out I believe it is very possible that we will come to see how bad the selection of Palin really was. Now if Wallace and Schmidt pushed her on McCain then shame on them, but if they fought the selection it is easy to see how they must feel they just wasted two years of their life.

Like many of you I am also disgusted with the treatment Sarah Palin is receiving from the McCain camp. I wrote Gov. Palin to thank her for her work and apologize for how terribly she is being treated. I have also written McCain and the GOP to express my anger at them for allowing these attack dogs to go after the ONLY bright spot in this campaign. It is time to throw the RINO's out. Personally I am getting involved- locally. It is time to take out the trash. Put the traitors names out there- time to clean house.

My question is where in the world is the RNC in this whole fiasco; why are they not enforcing discipline? Is there anybody there that has even a modicum of leadership ability? I don't understand what good they are, or what purpose they've served. This was clearly illustrated when my cousin asked me on Monday ahead of the election if I could name the head of the DNC. Sure, easy, Howard Dean. Then he asked me if I could name the head of the RNC. Not a clue. Larry "Bud" Melman?

I was blessed to get to go to 3 rallies to hear Sarah speak- SHE is the real deal behind the Republican party. SHE energized the supporters who would be voting for McCain only because they were against Obama . SHE spoke the truth and said what needed to be said- I wish we had her earlier in the campaign.
The McCain camp lost this for us, not Sarah. There were plenty of missed opportunities to call out the truth about Obama and his associations.

The local "Victory" guy was a bit too inexperienced in dealing with people and ended up alienating most of them. The McCain/RNC group pretty much refused to work with the local candidates to leverage anything that was happening with them to get a mutual boost. Its like the base and the grass roots didn't exist to them.
Regardless of the media reports, those of us that were in the trenches know that if he had picked anyone of the others mentioned (Romney, Rudy, Leiberman, Ridge), he would have lost by double-digits. She kept him close.
Her rollout was a disaster. She should have been out the day after the convention giving policy speeches for the special needs kids and energy policy. They should have had her "cutting her teeth" on national interview with the friendlier teams of every major talk radio show and some of the local ones wherever she was campaigning. They should have said, hey, she isn't the foreign policy expert on the ticket, McCain is. But instead they tried to make her into something she wasn't. They put her on ice for the first 2 weeks, let the media define her and then threw her to the ABC and CBS wolves. Whoever came up with that strategy is an idiot.
Sarah will be fine. She just needs a couple more years to learn now that she knows what she will have to deal with.

Crowds lined up out the door, pure rock concert electricity in the crowd... If McCain picked anyone else but her, he would have lost by 12-15 million votes IMO.... She has the pop culture rock star status Obama has, buton the conservative side... Our party should leverage that in the future.. vCute, but impractical - I loved the look of these Nike Duck shoes and completely bought into the name snow "joggers", as I go on long walk/jogs with my dog every day, and needed something suitable for the winter months. The first thing I noticed about this cheap Nike Duck shoe was that on the Zappos site, the only size available was 8/8.5, which I assumed meant the shoe ran in whole sizes only. When they arrived, the actual shoe was marked 8.5, and they were definitely too big, though I kept them because I figured I would just double-sock it to make them fit better. I wore them for a snow-walk through the state park nearby soon after getting them, and was disappointed at the ankle support, which is non-existent. The top of the boot ends just below the bottom of the calf, and the velcro closure doesn't fit around tight enough. I am NOT thin by any stretch of the imagination (size 14 dress), and at their tightest, the boots are too big around the ankle. The plus side of these is that even after an hour long hike in a foot of snow, my feet were dry and warm. Since then, however, I noticed that the patent is cracked in a few places, which might let wetness in. That said, if you are wanting these for style rather than functionality, they're great. I always get stares and nice compliments (and often Napolean Dynamite references) when wearing these, and I LOVE how they look with a pair of thick leggings underneath. Next winter, I will definitely buy a more functional pair of shoes with which I can be active in the snow and cold, but I'll never get rid of these adorable Nike Dunk discount shoes, all complaints aside.
