Hardball With Sarah Palin

A mix of good and bad here, and maybe good and good, depending on how cynical you are, or how much a role you think faith should play in politics.

Incidentally, some good background on her step-mother-in-law, Faye Palin, who's announced she might vote against Palin and for Obama, and says she doesn't know what Palin brings to the ticket, apart from being a woman.

Let's just say they have the typical sitcom mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship:

When Palin, who went on to win re-election by a landslide, was forced out of the Mayor's office by term limits in 2002, her husband Todd's stepmother Faye Palin ran for mayor. She did not, however, get Sarah Palin's endorsement. A couple of people told me that they thought abortion was the reason for Palin not supporting her family member — Faye, they say, is pro-choice, not to mention a Democrat. A former city council member recalls that it was a heated race, mainly because of right-to-life issues: "People were writing BABYKILLER on Faye's campaign signs just a few days before the election." Faye Palin lost the race to the candidate that Sarah backed, Dianne Keller, who is still mayor of Wasilla.

It's good to know that she is not completely "nice." Principled, tough, and a balls-to-the-walls campaigner. But not nearly as treacly-sweet as she seems.

More stuff: Biden concedes that serving as a governor is "no mean feat;" and this seems to be that Newsbusters-cut clip Allah pronounced "must watch." So I'm a-gonna watch it.

3 When I first heard the story about the mother in law I turned to my husband and said dryly "I thought your mother was dead? Is she channeling?"
He just said "Oh, very funny............." and then laughed really hard...
Good God...no one, and I mean no woman ever listens to what a bitchy mother in law says....they are like in house members of N.O.W.
I did swear to never, ever be like her though...and I'm not.

9 Ehh, I basically read the story as pretty good. Especially if people are expecting her to be a shrinking violet. Also, most of the more damaging stuff did not really get confirmed. Mostly it was jsut claimed by the loser. Ether their own campaign manager did not back him up or nobody could be reached. interesting read

Ha. We all have one of those people in our family that takes politics too personally. It's odd enough that she ran for mayor like that, and if the people rejected her, then hardee har har.

You'd think, with Sarah's entire family under attack, especially the children, that the rest of the family would leave political statements aside for a second and defend their kin. This Faye apparently isn't that kind of person. Palin's kids need support from family, who I would think would be enraged by the smears, and not all that worried about the politics.

16 I don't know if I'm misreading some of the comments here, but I don't think any attacks on the step-mother-in-law are appropriate. It sounds like she and Governor Palin have substantive policy disagreements and can reasonably be thought to oppose one another's respective candidacies on those grounds. There's nothing spiteful or contentious about that. I'm pretty sure that if I ever ran for office, I'd expect 5 of my 9 closest family members to vote against me on ideological grounds - in fact, I'd be disappointed if they didn't.

20 Palin got reelected, her hand-picked successor got elected and then re-elected.
Seems like the town's opinion is that Palin did a good job.

It also seems like Palin made some early mistakes (when she was in her early 30s) but got smoother as she got more experience. The article also shows that she is very ambitious.
