A Close Look at the O-Cropolis

Even if we, the gods, are abandoned or forgotten, the stars will never fade.

Yesterday's pictures were indistinct enough to make me wonder whether this stage was meant to resemble the Lincoln Memorial. Obama's speech takes place on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech so maybe they were once again using well-known imagery in an attempt to fill the empty suit.

Close ups of the stage, though, make me reconsider that assumption. That really doesn't look like the Lincoln Memorial - just a flashy facade that will make Obama's ~~followers~~ supporters fall prostrate in worship of their god-king-emperor.

2 Eh, I'm sticking with the MLK/Lincoln Memorial theme. His whole campaign has been laced with references to both of them and there is no way it is a coincidence this speech is being given on the anniversay of the I have a dream speech. We'll see.

The "temple" looks strikingly like the view of the White House from the Rose Garden. The columns; the path from the White House entrance to the podium; even the panes of the faux windows between the columns. I think that's precisely the image the DNC was going for.

No matter what they are trying to get at with this stage, it is amazing how tone deaf this campaign is. After months of being called an elitist, a European rock trip gone bad, Paris Hilton mockery and in a week when John McCain gives them a golden opportunity to strike back by not knowing how many homes he has, the geniuses at this campaign decide, "You know what would be excellent? Let's have Obama descend from Mt Olympus to speak to the common man".

McCain keeps giving them a loaded gun and they decide the best thing to do is blow off another of their own toes.

His historical associations are damnable and his march to the top loaded with political landmines. Obama's ego is an Achilles heel he cannot conceal, so his supporters have just decided to run with it.

The bigger the spectacle, the more the debate is about the spectacle and not the empty suit under the spotlight. Democrats absolutely must rely on the sizzle because there's no steak. Olympian sets, stagecraft, and teleprompter addresses are the crutches to support that Achilles heel.

This will not go over well. And Team Obama the press will praise it thinking fawning accolades will satisfy flyover country rubes.

McCain is the luckiest RINO in recent history, perhaps ever.

36 The big difference between Greek and Roman architecture, I think is the columns. The Greek columns have fluting that runs all the way to the bottom while the Roman columns, if they have fluting, stops short near the base.
