Yeah-but 90% of the public has never heard of Bill Ayers (or Bernadine Dohrn) and of the 10% who have probably 40% will try to rationalize.  I was driving home last night listening to a Knoxville station and they had a panel on discussing the Dem race.  This came on and a couple of people called in to do just that-inlcluding one who described himself as a "Vietnam veteran" who claimed that Ayers and Dohrn never killed anyone except for their three comrades who blew themselves up (leaving aside those killed in the Brinks robbery after Ayers and Dohrn went underground). 

The Dems know that the MSM will gladly cary their water-this goes nowhere unless we can find a way to force it into the public conciousness.  Meanwhile expect to hear the words "McCain" and "Keating Five" repeated ad naseaum this fall.

Doesn't McCain still have a member (or former member) of the Mexican government as his "Hispanic Outreach Director"? A person actively working to subvert the sovereignty of the United States? "Terrorist" isn't an objective designation, it is a term that states use to frame an individual's independent act of political violence against a state.  It is a political term that is drawn up by the government to classify certain types of opposition to the state.  

This is why we don't consider, for instance, Colombian counterinsurgents terrorists.  But that will likely change, if it hasn't already.  This is why the kurds in Iraq have pretty much been considered OK, but now, for the sake of Turkey, are shifting into the terrorist column.  As Iraq stabilizes, more and more groups will be diverted into the terrorist column, even if they are currently considered "militias" or civic groups.  I wouldn't be surprised if McCain or Hillary or Obama doesn't shift groups like the Minutemen into the terrorist column.

On the other hand, there are groups that were once considered terrorist groups, but which aren't now.  The MEK from Iran bounces back and forth.  The KLA got a makeover under Clinton.  The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt has gotten some support from the US recently.  Even Chalabi went from being a crooked thug to a good guy who turned out to be a crooked thug afterall.

Ayers is a free man and a US citizen.  If the state does not consider a terrorist, then, for all intents and purposes, he isn't.   

28 I have no complaint with most New Deal and some Great Society reforms.  I think it rebounds to the credit of liberals that they pressed for Social Security, Medicare, and civil rights.  I do not think it would be an insurmountable tragedy if I payed a few more thousand dollars in taxes or if America had a national health plan.  But here's what I hold against liberals:  they were absurdly tolerant of all the crimes of Communism and third world nationalists.  Their attachment to democracy and capitalism is conditional and hedged.  If the unemployment rises above a certain point or if America engages in a war that they disapprove of, they feel that they have a right, indeed a duty, to violently overthrow our government.  I have no doubt that Obama considers Ayers excesses forgiveable and those of a hedge fund manager worthy of punishment.  Liberals consider economic equality a greater good than freedom or God or patriotism.  For these reasons I cannot vote for a liberal in time of war.

They are well-paid university professors. Ayers was an "education advisor" to Mayor Richard Daley.
