Breaking: McCain News Conference

Maverick and his wife are doing a press conference in response to the NY Times Story that rehashed old charges of ethical lapses and walked right up to the line of accusing him of having an affair with a lobbyist he may have done some favors for.

Fox News is streaming it live here.

UPDATE:

Well, that was quick. It's all over.

"I'm very disappointed in the article. It's not true," the likely Republican presidential nominee said as his wife, Cindy, stood alongside him during a news conference called to address the matter.

McCain described the woman in question, lobbyist Vicki Iseman, as a friend.

The newspaper quoted anonymous aides as saying they had urged McCain and Iseman to stay away from each other prior to his failed presidential campaign in 2000. In its own follow-up story, The Washington Post quoted longtime aide John Weaver, who split with McCain last year, as saying he met with lobbyist Iseman and urged her to stay away from McCain.

Weaver told the Times he arranged the meeting after "a discussion among the campaign leadership" about Iseman.

McCain said he was unaware of any such conversation.

This from the same media outlet that ignored the repeated cases of Billy Clinton doing enormous favours for his ADMITTED mistresses?

The NYT, no speck so small we cannot put it on page one! (if it's about the Republicans)

The Gray Lady is a whoring tramp publishing a pathetic piece of trash.

Professional men and women conduct business. Some people are friends. Business is conducted. McCain wrote a letter as part of his job on the committee, as he saw fit. Discuss the letter's relevance with all details, NYT, not the gossip column anonymous heckles.

3 Is McCain going to do a presser every time he gets accused of something? It's gonna be a loooong summer for him if so.

Wait, are you saying that the NYT has run a hit piece on McCain that they sat on all through the primaries when they were endorsing him knowing it would do maximum damage to him now that he is the presumptive nominee?

Wow, who could have seen this coming?

No irony when it is TNR that is pushing a vague, thinly sourced story huh...nope, no irony there.

Unfuckingbelieveable.

I went and bought a McCain shirt and bumpersticker, just to piss off the lefty douches that surround me.

I got a "Bush is stupid" comment from a little faggot with long curly hair when I wore my BushCheney 2004 shirt. He ran up to me and said it, then ran away.

Like a little pussy.

John McCain ain't no pussy...but that wife of his...oofa, what a fox. I could get used to seeing her in the news for four years.

7 The Times is a partisan rag and McCain is completely unappealing which leaves me where? In limbo, where else?

I'm not buying it. The Times finally runs this hit piece on their favorite Republican right about the time he's short of money? Right about the time he's having trouble roping us into his corral? I guess I'm questioning the timing.

The Times may not be exactly in McCain's corner, but I don't doubt for a minute they would exploit their position as our media nemesis to help him make this horse race competitive. Remember that they really deeply love this guy for jamming stuff up our ass all these years. While they may heart Obama, they can live with four years of jamming more stuff up our butts. They're kinda gay like that.

The NYT may be doing conservatives a blessing in disguise, forcing McCain to accomodate the conservative platform to insure our support and votes. If only McCain will swear a solemn oath to focus on CITIZEN RIGHTS vs. illegal aliens and even prioritize citizen employment vs. legal immigrants, the most stubborn amongst us would no longer have a gripe. Wearing the "Conservative" badge does not mean that citizens' rights weigh more heavily than financial incentives from big business upon Congress that by in large mirrors Hatch of Utah's legislated delivery of jobs to legal immigrants vs. citizens of the USA. The entire union vs business with the government involvement in private wages deserves a scrub down.

McCain's strengths and innate interests are military. I would hope that this downed satellite will also point his platform towards strengthening our economy via proudly MADE IN USA machining industry. Time to reconnoiter the significance of machining made proudly by citizens in the USA.

The NYT should be broadcasting exactly where the ineffective spy satellite parts were made, and by whom. Inquiring minds want to know.

11 Come on guys.  Are you sure this whole scandal isn't being kicked up by the McCain camp as a craven play for Democratic votes?

Posted by: Kasper Hauser at February 21, 2008 11:13 AM (KeOQp)

12 Hmmmmm, and the MSM is still in blithering, blinding, kicking-feet ignorance denial of any rumours of the Silky Pony being unfaithful. Much more to look into there I would think.   Oh wait.  Silk is a democrat; nothing to see here, move along.

If ignorance is bliss, main stream media is blistered.

13 Didn't Edwards actually knock up some chippy?

And isn't Hillary rumored to be a full-blown dyke, getting to taste the sweetness of a young aide?

Where is the NYT on these subjects?

Where is Larry Flynt, that toad like douche...

Posted by: Sir E Buzz Heinz-Miller-Heinz, Esq at February 21, 2008 11:16 AM (sf4Oe)

14 The NYT is what it is. So is McCain. Get used to it. Tip of the iceberg, etc.

Posted by: Rainman at February 21, 2008 11:31 AM (igcvF)

15 How do you like your MSM friends now Johnny Mav?  What, fucking over the members of your own party for 20+ years wasn't enough to make the NYT love you long time GI?   How could the NYT endorese a man that they knew was so flawed - almost makes one question their competence.

Posted by: holdfast at February 21, 2008 11:44 AM (Gzb30)

16

Someone said it on another thread: this is the NYT's idea of a favor for Johnny Mac.  If they hated him, they would have sat on this until July or August.

Its a nice feeling to just not give a shit about this stuff, though.  Fire away, leftist MSM types.  Its totally predictable and its not even raising my blood pressure cos I have zero emotional investment in the McCain candidacy.

17 John Weaver. Hmmm. He's the same guy who approached Daschle's folks and started the party switch rumors, and the Kerry VP rumors too, right?

Gee, I wonder if McCain fired him last year? Gotta love those disgruntled former employees.

Daschle was actually sleeping every night with a lobbyist…still is, as far as I’ve heard.

Somebody buried the "lede" here. Maverick is in Toledo, Ohio. If he doesn't swing by and bitch-slap Mayor Carleton J. Finkbeiner, he hasn't got a hair on his thirteen-button, bell-bottom Navy ass. Can I get a booYah?

That is all.

22 Man, hush up. That was on the down low.

23 The NYT in free fall.

What they have is the Keating Affair of - 20 years ago? He helped a big supporter. Of course! Every pol does. Sometimes one won't when he fears exposure.

What else do they say?

An identified former aide and someone anonymous say McCain and the woman appeared together too much and shouldn't for political reasons. Some might decide they were having an affair. Oh, this happened 8 years ago!

I have no idea who McCain screws privately. Voters can decide who he screws publicly. I wish it were as hard to evaluate the NYT.

"Someone said it on another thread: this is the NYT's idea of a favor for Johnny Mac.  If they hated him, they would have sat on this until July or August."

I'm not buying this... In describing the New York Times I'd  go with a modified Dennis Green quote:  They are who we thought  knew they were

25 Come on fellow morons, cut out the lobbyist crap already. Lobbying is protected by the First Amendment's association and petition clause . Unless there is actual bribery, such as Cold Cash William Jefferson, D, NOLA; lay off the lobbyists.
