| And Yet Another Surprise: Hollywood To Release Tidal Wave of Anti-War Films In Time For 2008 ElectionI'd sort of like to have myself a look at the major investors in these films. CommentsPosted by: mesablue at August 20, 2007 09:04 PM (KCOdQ) 2
I'm making my own movie, In the Valley of Bart. A gripping, powerful saga of whatever laced with homoerotocism and featuring heartrendering, gobsmackingly vile scenes of hobo killings, against a backdrop of the greed-infested 1980s of Ronald Reagan, climaxing in a climax of morons climaxing when Lauraw enters the strip joint bar in Boston at Acepalooza wearing nothing but Ace's barely-there thong on her hump and choking on a ball-gag soaked in Valu-Rite Vodka. The final scene, in which Wickedpinto knocks over a bottle VR Vodka and breaks it, is so shocking that no one will be seated for the last ten minutes of the movie.

It was too soon for Flight 93 but it's never to soon for anti-American propaganda. Thank you Hollywood!

Let's not forget: Dave II: Reelected Kevin Kline and Signourney Weaver reprise their 1993 roles from the hit movie and cable favorite "Dave'. Ivan Reitman recently decided that "after eight years of the enormity that is the Bush Administration" it was time to make a film which focused "on the opportunity that comes from this election campaign, when Bush is Constitutionally barred from running." - Posted by: BumperStickerist at August 20, 2007 09:13 PM (Gz4Wf) 6
In a notable break with the past - where anti-war films were released several years after the conflict in question - a whole new genre has been created even while US troops remain on the front lines of the "War on Terror." A whole new genre? How about a whole new level of douchebaggery. Blowback. Watch for it. Posted by: mesablue at August 20, 2007 09:15 PM (KCOdQ) 7
Backlash. Plus, all these actors are has-beens. John and Reese are only popular in comedic movies, these will tank.
Hollywood should stick to the fan boy crap, since no one needs any "lessons learned" movies from a bunch of sleazy, closeted, coked up, sexed up, high school dropouts. Bring on The Hobbit, the rest of you need to get the hell off my movie screen. Posted by: Stormy70 at August 20, 2007 09:15 PM (Y+o71) 8
Just in time for all the democrats who are walking back their positions. This is the danger in believing your own propaganda.

"It's safe for Hollywood to make these kind of
movies without risking much of a backlash. There's always a risk when
you make an anti-war movie in the middle of the war that people are
going to be ticked off.
I only hope that Hollywood has seriously misread the mood of the American people. Posted by: OregonMuse at August 20, 2007 09:23 PM (5UgG/) 10
Excellent. I love watching rich liberals burn money.
Posted by: Slublog at August 20, 2007 09:25 PM (OVqex) 11
Hollywood has been making lots of anti-war movies, but they are tanking at the box office. They can't even get out of the gate.
These are just vanity projects to blow smoke up each other's asses, between bouts with hookers. Posted by: Stormy70 at August 20, 2007 09:26 PM (Y+o71) 12

I just watched the Rendition trailer. Shit, by the end of it, I was rooting for the CIA.
This movie will be a disaster for the Hollywood douchebags who made it if my reaction turns out to be a common one. Posted by: OregonMuse at August 20, 2007 09:49 PM (5UgG/) 15
I hope they lose their asses, both financially and at the polls. I tire of Hollywood's "hipness" and their desire to be rebels (while following a herd mentality). Actors are children financed by leftist hypocrites.

Way O/T, but noticed not many picked up in the story about Rep. Bob Filner (D-asshole) this segment: Filner is on his way to Iraq to see the troops, his office said in a statement late Monday, and will have a full statement when he returns. So... he goes to the airport, flies to Dulles, gets off the aircraft, goes down to baggage to collect his shit (outside the security zone so he can't get back in)... then will swim to Iraq? Reminds me of Cartman trying to blame the picture of Butter's dick in his mouth on the Iraq War. IT'S WRONG! WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! Oh and Hollywood can suck my Hollyballs, especially after the fiasco known as ben affleck. Posted by: TheEJS at August 20, 2007 10:02 PM (2QiX/) 17
Well, it's clear from reading the article that these idiots don't
bother to keep up with the news. Two thirds of the country are
against the war? Don't they look at ANY polls? Last I
heard, support for the war was riding around 51% or so--and support for
Congress and their particular brand of stupid was heading into the
negative numbers. While support and trust for the military was
near 70%--oh yeah, these guys are gonna do BIG box office. And
you just know that any war film that "does well at the Sundance Film
Festival" is, right there, a guaranteed flag-waving, bring the crowd to
their feet with patriotic fervor, lump in your throat with pride, kind
of movie--right up there with Jane Fonda's "Best of the 60's".
What miserable, ignorant, useless dinks. Posted by: buffalo woman at August 20, 2007 10:02 PM (nE3wT) 18
Two outcomes I'm looking forward to from this: 1).Blowback when the overplay their hand. 2). People not taking it the way the Left intends. Many of us came out of movies meant to make the Military look bad ready to go sign up. Posted by: TBinSTL at August 20, 2007 10:05 PM (2J6+t) 19
In a notable break with the past The PAST?! When does the Past end and the present begin? Hollywood has been cranking out anti-war, and anti-american propaganda since the day bush took office, and then increased with afghanistan and increased more with iraq. A notable BREAK?! or an idiotic batch of hyperbole from someone who is so far left that they think that hollywood has been all gung ho over the last 8 years? I just watched the Rendition trailer. Shit, by the end of it, I was rooting for the CIA.
Oregonmuse...I am sure that movie will take a hard look at the author of the Rendition Program...William Jefferson Clinton. From Richard Clarke's book (with a special appearance by Al Gore!): Snatches, or more properly "extraordinary renditions," were operations to apprehend terrorists abroad, usually without the knowledge of and almost always without public acknowledgement of the host government.... The first time I proposed a snatch, in 1993, the White House Counsel, Lloyd Cutler, demanded a meeting with the President to explain how it violated international law. Clinton had seemed to be siding with Cutler until Al Gore belatedly joined the meeting, having just flown overnight from South Africa. Clinton recapped the arguments on both sides for Gore: Lloyd says this. Dick says that. Gore laughed and said, "That's a no-brainer. Of course it's a violation of international law, that's why it's a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass." (pp. 143-144) Al Gore used to be a lot saner than he is now. I've got unidentifiable stuff in plastic containers in the back of my refrigerator that are a lot saner than Al Gore is now.

There's a movie called The Kingdom coming out in September, which is about a bunch of FBI operatives investigating a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia. It starts with a "large-scale" terrorist attack, where Americans and their families are killed.
During a screening of the picture, the audience went crazy and started applauding when a group of jihadists are gunned down. Instead of being pleased with the response, according to an interview in EW, the director was "freaked." He was bothered that he might have made a picture that would be perceived as a "jingoistic piece of propaganda, which is certainly what [he] didn't intend." He also asked himself "Am I experiencing American bloodlust?" What a douche. I guess there's yet another 8 bucks of mine that these morons won't be getting. Not a Hollywood movie, but this documentary by lefty Molly Bingham was just released.
http://www.meetingresistance.com/index.html It doesn't seem to be getting any attention, so it should probably just be ignored, but the shots it has of insurgents making bombs are pretty inflammatory. They were embedded with the enemy apparently. Posted by: stace at August 20, 2007 10:43 PM (A56/D) 26

You know, boycotts are usually a pointless act, and economically tend to make little or no difference.
On a personal level, however, there's a pretty damned huge benefit to this particular boycott - not subjecting oneself to any more Hollyweird trash. On wiserbud's note, it is often amusing how Hollyweirdos are surprised at how their ham-handed propaganda is received. When I first noticed the phenomenon, back in the late 80s, I thought it was just HWers tring to maintain "street cred" after they made a blockbuster that's poo-pooed by the intellectsia. Now I realize, They Are Just That Dumb. Posted by: Merovign at August 20, 2007 11:27 PM (IaYDo) 28
Yeah, I was shocked to see the trailer for The Kingdom showing actual Jihadis.

When I went to see "The Bourne Ultimatum" this weekend, I had the misfortune of sitting through the trailer for "Lions For Lambs", which is Robert Redford's new film.
Here's the plot outline from IMDB- "Lions for Lambs begins after two determined students at a West Coast University, Arian (Derek Luke) and Ernest (Michael Pena), follow the inspiration of their idealistic professor, Dr. Malley (Robert Redford), and attempt to do something important with their lives. But when the two make the bold decision to join the battle in Afghanistan, Malley is both moved and distraught. Now, as Arian and Ernest fight for survival in the field, they become the string that binds together two disparate stories on opposite sides of America. In California, an anguished Dr. Malley attempts to reach a privileged but disaffected student (Andrew Garfield) who is the very opposite of Arian and Ernest. Meanwhile, in Washington D.C. the charismatic Presidential hopeful, Senator Jasper Irving (Tom Cruise), is about to give a bombshell story to a probing TV journalist (Meryl Streep) that may affect Arian and Ernest’s fates." Redford acting and directing, Streep co-starring, and batshit crazy Tom Cruise co-starring adds up to "I'd miss it even if it wasn't a political hit-job." it is often amusing how Hollyweirdos are surprised at how their ham-handed propaganda is received.
Much later in the EW article about The Kingdom, they mention that they screened the film for a mostly Islamic audience in London, who reacted the exact same way at the shooting of the jihadis as the American audience did. That didn't seem to bother the director as much, as he all of a sudden realized that the concept of good triumphing over evil is a pretty rational and desirable idea. "At the moment, I realized we have so many misconceptions. The movie wasn't being looked at in terms of religion. It was just people accepting it as a story about people trying to stop extreme violence. And that's a universal thing." So, Americans cheering at the killing of terrorists = bad, jingoistic, blood-thirsty. Muslims cheering at the exact same thing = smart, nuanced, universal. Like I said, what a douche. A friend of mine likes the ham-handed white-men-are-the-root-of-all-evil movie Falling Down. When I pointed out to him that the scene where Michael Douglas wields a machine gun to get what he wants at the Whammy Burger was intended to show what psychotic assholes American men -- i.e. him -- are, he said, "Yeah, I can kind of see what you're saying. But it would be so great to be able to get better service that way." He found the scene satisfying in a way I don't think Schumacher intended.

If Reese Witherspoon's Arab husband turns out to actually be some kind of terrorist leading a double life with her, the movie could be interesting. Leaving politics aside, who wants to watch another movie about some woman screaming and crying about wanting her husband back? Suppose her husband's fellow terrorists snatch her off the street so her husband won't talk. Even better, suppose they break into the house while she's in the shower! I should have sat in on the pitch for this pig. Posted by: spongeworthy at August 21, 2007 09:46 AM (uSomN) 38

Strange. I must have missed all those patriotic films that Hollywood was supposedly producing. Soooooo. Let's refer to the checklist for these new films. America is evil? check. Brown-skin people misunderstood? check. Liberals save the day? check. No frigging connection to reality? check. I guess I'm going to continue my unbroken streak of ignoring the movie industry and staying home. Posted by: memomachine at August 21, 2007 11:54 AM (3pvQO) 41

"Mark coal, who wrote the script for The Hurt Locker, said films could present a view of the Iraq war not found in other mainstream media.
"We wanted to show the kinds of things that soldiers go through that you can't see on CNN, and I don't mean that in a censorship-conspiracy way," he told the Hollywood Reporter. "I just mean the news doesn't actually put photographers in with units that are this elite. " So...Apocalypse Now; but in a humvee, in the desert, on a road. I can see it now... "Never get out of the Humvee. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you were going all the way. Beauchamp got off the Humvee. He split from the whole fucking program. How did that happen? Speaking of, Peter Berg is making another movie, Lone Survivor, a true story about Marcus Luttrell and an ill-fated mission in Afghanistan. Luttrell, who wanted respect for the fallen soldiers, took a liking to Berg over a team at Dreamworks that included Bay and Speilberg (and a higher bid?). The story here. - And here is an older interview with Luttrell on breitbart.tv. He's an incredible guy. Posted by: Mary at August 21, 2007 02:28 PM (JGUCy) 46

I saw Falling Down in '93, and liked it for all those wrong reasons. It attempts to parody a Caucasian loser but it can't help but admit that the loser has genuine grievances. But then I was arguably going crazy at the time; I would certainly hate it now. It is Pat Buchanan's dream movie, after Deliverance. Verhoeven (sp?) similarly failed to make fascism look bad in Starship Troopers. Three Kings couldn't make its audience feel worse about the first Iraq War. And The Siege didn't induce any of us to gather around the local mosque singing kumbaya, either. It looks like The Kingdom is set to be another unintentionally pro-war movie. Rove, you magnificent bastard! Posted by: David Ross at August 21, 2007 03:31 PM (Mi7Wp) 48
Well, there goes ANY chance of getting Cpt Charles out to see a movie in 2008.
All those movies are gonna have rave reviews and good opening weekends as all the Leftards, Truthers, and America-Haters see them 3 times in a row. Then they will fall off the face of the earth and get crushed by the new Pixar release or a Sci-Fi/Fantasy film about clearly defined good guys defeating clearly defined evil guys. They won't get the need for that sort of story regarding real world events, oh no.... Can we go get a donation from all the bloggers & give it to Bruce Campbell so he can produce the Deuce-Four movie already? (Go see Michael Yon's past essays for news about this possible screen gem.) Thanks to wiserbud I now want to go see The Kingdom, which sounds bitchin' good just for having jihadis as bad guys & getting their deserved comeuppance. The rest of those films can go piss in the wind for their chances to ever get $$$ from me. Oh well, anime is turning out good shows to watch these days, and I am working on a 28mm tactical minis game that features contemporary & near-future combat scenarios. Come to Origins & Gencon in about 2 years and we can have some fun war games with nary a dime going to Hollywood. Posted by: exdem13 at August 21, 2007 06:55 PM (G4AdY) 49

I just saw Rendition today.
(I wanted to see 30 Days of Night, but got the times confused. After sitting in the dark in an empty theatre for five minutes, I decided I didn't want to stay for an extra half hour.) It's not terrible. I won't go see most of these things - refuse to see anything by Oliver Stone, but am compelled to see Michael Moore's crap just so I can pick it apart. They throw out a couple of stupid lines. The worst is something like, "For every person we torture, we create a hundred, a thousand enemies." Maybe that's true for America, but I think that's just because we are America. The North Vietnamese tortured the hell out of dozens if not hundreds of guys and that didn't seem to piss off liberals all that much. Neither when an American, German or whatever gets tortured and has his head sawed off. Sure, it makes it more likely we'll go bomb a few, but that's just a matter of pragmatism. The worst part about the movie though is that the guy is actually hooked to a battery and that we had observers. I don't think that's fair to assume at all, much less to make it appear commonplace. Gyllenhaalllleyhalll's comment that "This movie shows that torture doesn't work," is even dumber than anything in the movie. All it shows is that people confuse art with reason and evidence. That they confuse a picture with an argument. Something to remember: these projects take upwards of two years. That means this was in the hopper in 2005. I will have a hard time buying ugg classic cardy at normal brick and mortar store for now on knowing that I can browse the largest selection I have ever seen and purchase confidently. Thanks for being a great company.Although your ugg boots cardy website is entered by users, the site has a lot of accurate and useful information on it.your net shop is kept to a minimum and favours websites connected to the ugg cardy boots Web Design Library in appearance and subject.
The popular blue ugg is renowned for its comfort. But some doctors worry that the popular black ugg could cause serious foot pain in the long run.So some podiatrists across the country are telling ugg classic cardy lovers to watch their steps. In fact, there is nothing wrong! The crochet boots online retailer also knows bargain-hungry shoppers are scouring the Web for discounts, and its UGG Classic Crochet rivals are more than happy to provide them. So it is putting coupon codes on ugg classic crochet that customers can use to save money on its site. Posted by: makol UGG at December 05, 2009 03:15 PM (cmMdO) 68
